The Frederick County Women in Trades officially began its mission with the unveiling of its new logo during CTC’s Open House last month. The Women in Trades initiative is a joint venture between representatives from Frederick County’s construction industry, CTC, and FCC to educate, encourage and support young women in careers in the construction trades. “Considering the continued need for workers and innovations in construction techniques, more women should look to opportunities in the trades,” noted Dr. Kristine Pearl, Supervisor of Career and Technical Education. Dr. Pearl added, “It’s wonderful to see industry and education coming together to address the under-representation of women in construction careers. This is a good thing for our students and the County’s future.” The Frederick County Women in Trades unveiled its newly designed logo during CTC’s Open House. Present during the unveiling were (L to R) Jamie Martinez, logo designer and senior from Walkersville High School, Kathleen Schlappal, Instructional Director of High Schools FCPS, Sarah Henry, Kaempf & Harris Sheet Metal and HVAC program completer, and Danielle Adams, Chair of Frederick County Women in Trades. The Frederick County Women in Trades’ newly designed logo was created by CTC’s Digital Design student Jamie Martinez, a senior from Walkersville High School. Representatives from Women in Trades were on hand at the Open House supporting the construction trades.
“The timing of the Women in Trades initiative is perfect,” noted Danielle Adams, Chair of Frederick County Women in Trades. “With the demands of industry, recent economic stresses, and needs identified by staff at CTC and FCC, it is time for women to take a serious look at the good pay and benefits that the construction trades have to offer,” added Adams.
